Lydia Yee will be chief curator at London’s Whitechapel Gallery. Yee has been curator at London’s Barbican Art Gallery since 2007. She will take up her new position in February 2015.

With fellow curator Anna Colin, Yee is organizing “British Art Show 8,” the next iteration of a quinquennial exhibition of contemporary British art organized by London’s Hayward Gallery. The show is set to begin a UK tour in October 2015.

At the Barbican, she co-curated exhibitions such as “Bauhaus: Art as Life” (2012). In 2004, she received the Emily Hall Tremaine Exhibition Award for the show “Street Art, Street Life” at the Bronx Museum. In 2003, she was the Cassullo Fellow at the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program in New York, serving a six-month residency. In 1996, during her master’s studies in art history at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, Yee began work as curator at the Bronx Museum of the Arts.

Founded in 1901, the Whitechapel Gallery has served as the venue for the London premiere of modern and contemporary artists including Sophie Calle, Gilbert & George, Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollock.
